A girl laughs.
‘Where is she? Where did she go?’ Wolf searches the large park frantically, sniffing the ground and tasting the air. ‘I don’t smell her! Where-’ There is a blood-curdling scream in the distance. Wolf runs toward it, bolting as fast as his legs will take him. He skids to a halt at the sight. There stood a black dog over the body of his beloved little girl. ‘She never stood a chance,’ he thought in horror, panting. He advanced toward the figure, ready to attack it. It turned around and Wolf stared into his own eyes.
Wolf awoke with a jump, sending dirt and dead foliage flying into the air. He shook off the dust and the realism of the dream. He growled lightly at nothing in particular and made his way toward a nearby creek. Wolf jabbed his head beneath the cool water to clear his head. Surfacing, he shook it off, beads of water spraying everywhere.
Standing still he listened to the stillness of the woods. There were some birds chirping in the distance and a few bustling raccoons. Nothing that would endanger his life. Not yet, anyway. It was very early and more animals were bound to come for a drink of water. He took his own and headed closer to town. His pack was still developing and he still had not decided on where their territory should be. He might just take over the human part of the cemetery…as his potty spot anyway. The idea made him chuckle. Without a large pack though, the town was the safest place to be. He tried to stay away from most of the pets. They knew what his ideals were and how rabid he was and they kept their distance as well.
Finding an empty spot near the pet cemetery, he sat. His stomach was growling slightly, but he would not succumb to it. Not only was he preparing his body to be strong without nourishment, but he would not beg for food or had the energy to catch it. There was a noise and he turned, growling in the direction. “Who’s there,” he said in a low, cool snarl.

Paws thundered on the lush soil, kicking up dirt, pebbles, and chunks of grass. There were even a few beetles who were sent flying due to being in the way. Almost there... The white dog continued on her chase, quickly gaining on the small creature--a wild rabbit. Now, those little critters were pretty fast when they wanted to be, and this one was no exeption. Though most think of the Greyhound as the fastest domestic dog, that is only running short distances. Over longer distances, the Saluki and some other breed has it bbeat. this was definately a long distance.
The snow white Saluki had noticed the rabbit a half hour ago, just grazing on the grass. It was her perfect chance to both get some exorsize and food. That was why she was currently charging after the rabbit, who was only ahead of her from it slipping through small spaces.
Helene narrowed her chocolate gaze, leaning her head forwards with jaws opened. Almost... Almost... There!
|
She snapped down on the small wild creature, snapping its neck, slowing her pace until she completely came to a stop. Ah, sweet victory. Sure, she hadn't been born as a hunting dog, but her instincts sure came in handy. The Saluki dropped the rabbit at her paws, giving herself some time to lick off the blood on her white maw. She didn't like having her fur painted red, so she'll have to stop off at a stream or something after she ate. Her ears perked at the voice of another canine. Now, who could that be? She wasn't one to socialize with the other pets of the city, so her knowledge of everyone was very limited. Helene delicately picked up the limp rabbit by the scruff of its neck before slipping through the trees and into the open. Hm? When did I arrive at the Old Oak Cemetery? I need to pay more attention to my surroundings. The Saluki scanned the area, searching for the source of the voice. Well, the only other creature there was a black dog. Wait a minute, wasn't that Wolf, the pack leader of those who have turned against the ways of Big Yellow? Yeah, of the few she somewhat knew, they were only the ones who she saw at meetings, even though she never spoke to them. " I believe I am the only other one here, sir." Her voice was lightly muffled by the rabbit in her jaws, but her words were still clearly heard. Helene trotted towards the black dog, halting around ten yards away to give him his space. ooc: Hope you don't mind me joining in. :3[/sup][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Wolf stood as the other dog appeared from around the corner. His head was low, looking up at her with a cautious stance. His scruff was standing, blowing lightly in the small breeze. He relaxed slightly when she spoke. The sir made him feel she was showing quite a bit of respect. He liked that. People were beginning to know that it was a bad idea to approach him without the intention of joining him. She kept her distance. Smart girl. It was nice to know that some of these pets weren’t completely unintelligent. Then again, some breeds and species he couldn’t blame, it was in their genetics to have a small brain.
Sitting back down, he observed this canine. Wolf was an observant dog. Some humans may have thought him just “easily distracted”, but that was far from it. There was no way he could save lives and always be distracted. He paid attention to his surroundings and this was one dog he could remember; and why not? She was a great hunter. Almost always had food to add to the pile. Her name was never thrown around, but Wolf identified this one as the shy one. When the crowds got too big, she seemed to shrink away from it all. It was a bad characteristic to have during this time. Pets will always be gathering, large packs forming and “town meetings” getting larger as more hope got lost. It wasn’t good to be alone right now…
The smell of the rabbit in her mouth was quite intoxicating and he could feel his mouth watering. Wolf was no drooling mutt, though; he knew how to control his bodily functions. Even though his stomach was screaming out to him, he would not satiate it. Not yet. “You’re alone,” Wolf asked suspiciously, sniffing the air around them. It was hard to detect other scents with the freshly dead rabbit hanging from her jaw, but he’s a German Shepherd, and German Shepherds are known for their sense of smell. The dry air, the rabbit, this shy dog, and dirt was all that was in the air. “I suppose you are,” he said coolly. “What is it that you want?”
Again, Wolf was no idiot. He knew this shy dog did not intentionally seek out the feared black dog before her. Not with how shy she was. Sure, she could probably out run him, but if Wolf wanted to, he could find her. Either way, she was here now, she crossed his path…what now?
ooc: I don’t mind at all! =]

He was pretty intimidating, and that was saying something from a dog who had seen the horrors on the masters' magic box of moving pictures. There were some pretty creepy things on there, but the black shepherd in front of her gave off a vibe that could probably kill.
Dark brown eyes watched the German Shepherd with pure innocent curiosity. It wasn't often that she actually cared to converse with another of her species, so she was pretty much studying the leader dog. Really, his whole appearance and aura screamed Mess with me and die. This was a dog who was best to stay on his good side of.
Helene shifted on her paws, getting tired of standing in the same position. Her hind quarters slowly went closer to the ground as she sat down, trying not to make quick movements. She had never sat down or plopped down quickly, due to the fact that many surfaces could easily injure her. The Saluki did not want an injury. No, that was the last thing on her mind. She noticed the fact that she still had the rabbit in her jaws. If she were to ever respond to Wolf, she would need to have her mouth free. The white canine lowered her head to the ground, waiting for the tan ball of fur's legs to touch the soil before she allowed it to be freed from her mouth. She would do something with it later. She might eat it or give it to someone. The whole point of catching the little critter was out of pure boredom and instinct.
The Saluki rose her head once more, never allowing her eyes to lock onto the black German Shepherd's own eyes. Locking eyes always led to a fight, and she wasn't about to have one of those either, especially with Wolf, of all canines. "There is nothing that I want, Sir Wolf." Well, now she made him sound like a knight. Maybe she should call him 'Sire'? He is of higher class, after all. Oh well. "I only came across you as I was hunting. You did, after all, call out and ask who was there. Pure curiosity, you could say."

Wolf watched the shy dog fixedly as she moved ever so cautiously. He could sense the fear emanating off of her. Fear? Perhaps not exactly fear, but a sense of knowing. She knew of what he was capable of and what he's already done to others in her same position. It was amazing what a few kills can do. Of course, there could be some kind of uprising against him to get rid of the big bad Wolf, but most other pets weren't interested in killing other pets. I mean, why would they commit such a crime?
Instinctively, the black canine tilted his head at her words. Mentally, he cursed at himself for doing such a thing. There was no human before him to entertain, nor was he some little puppy that didn't understand words. No, he was more than some domesticated pup now. "Yes, I did indeed ask who was there. Now that you've seen me why don't you run along and enjoy your little rabbit before I enjoy you."
Wolf sat back again and turned his head away from her as if disgusted. In hindsight, he was. The dog, when overcrowded, was a coward! Now if the crowd was full of unfriendlies, then he would understand, because even he can't take on so many; but these were usually Yellow's subjects or other pets just looking for some company. What was the big deal? Wolf couldn't help but notice some people act that way, however people were untrustworthy so he understood.
Once again his stomach gave a loud growl and he growled at it as well, warning it to be quiet already. He wasn't sure how much longer he could really starve himself until he grew too weak to even hunt, nor was he about to go crawling back into town to beg for scraps. Ha! That would be the day.

That act of arrogance was probably what made the pack that canine ran so small. Seriously, there was, what, only a single known member? If he ever wanted to strengthen his pack, he should start playing nice towards those without packs.
The white Saluki sighed, shifted on her paws once more. What he said made it seem as though he was going to rape her; however, she kept her thoughts to herself. She didn't want to give the Big Bad Wolf any ideas. Helene stayed silent, not really caring that he had just threatened her. The silence seemed to get rather thick until it was sliced in two by the rather loud grumbling coming from the black dog. She chuckled softly to herself, amused by this. He was a strong leader, and yet he was hungry? Normally pack leaders always got first pick at any and all meals, so this was pretty pathetic.
She picked up the rabbit by the scruff it its neck once more, studying the distance between the two pets for a few seconds. The white female then stood, tucking her head (and the rabbit) between her front legs, before swinging her head upwards, releasing the furry bundle as she did so. The rabbit soared through the air, falling only half a foot away from the black German Shepherd. "You can have it, sir. That rabbit would have died for nothing if someone doesn't eat it. Besides, pack leaders need to keep up their strength."
Well, her 'good dead' was done for the day. The only thing left to do was decided whether to leave Wolf to eat in peace or stay. She was really wanting to stay, but the vibes coming off of the German Shepherd made her reconsider that.
ooc: Also, she isn't a coward. She just doesn't like large crowds because of her more independent nature. Kinda like a loner. :3

Thud.
Wolf's head turned quickly at the noise and saw the rabbit mere inches away from him. His first thoughts: good aim, but he wasn't about to be so nice to comment out loud. This, however, was a sweet gesture on her part. Too bad Wolf isn't a very nice dog... Baring his teeth in an unfriendly grin he looked up at the white dog once more. She seemed indecisive. Perhaps he could help with that.
Standing up on all fours the dog took a step toward the carcass. He looked down at it, mouth watering even more. Slowly he bent his head down toward it. It was time to entertain the shy dog. He opened his mouth slowly and went for its scruff. With a quick movement he tossed it back at her, not caring if it hit her at all.
The bit of blood that touched his tongue sent his stomach in a frenzy. "Although I do respect your skills to catch that creature, I do not take charity." He began to walk toward her, thinking that perhaps he could put some real fear into her without a crowd. "You're much too nice," he said, a smile behind the words as he began to circle her. "Don't you think someone might take advantage of that one day? Wouldn't you feel safer in a pack? Safer...knowing you're protected?"
The last word completed his circle and he was facing her once again, leaving about a foot and half between them.
ooc: Oh, yeah I wouldn't think she's a coward, but Wolf sees her as that since she always seems to shrink away and avoid it. Even good readers misinterpret things xD Oh and also, I know how that sounded, but he really meant have her for dinner. Lol

It seemed as though he wasn't about to allow a simple gift or any act of kindness anytime soon. Helene let out a heavy sigh, dark eyes watching as the rabbit was thrown back. Calculating where it was going to end up, she instantly shifted her head to the left, jaws opening and then clamping down on the bloodsoaked fur of the rabbit in a split second. The creature swayed back and forth before settling to limply hanging in the air.
Dropping the abused prey to the ground once more, the white Saluki watched as the black canine advanced. The way he was circling around her made her realize how deer and other prey feel when wolves or lions circle around them. Helpless. Of course, Helene wasn't helpless. Oh, no, she was far from it; however, she decided to play the part of the soon-to-be prey for the time being. She could escape easily if things got too... One-sided violent.
"Now, who ever said I was nice?" She asked, brown eyes watching the other canine's every move without daring to look at his eyes. "If memory serves correct, female purebreds from breeders are always the devil when they wanted to be." Yeah, the whole being circled around thing was getting kind of creepy. Thankfully, the brute had stopped circling her like a lion with a herd of buffalo. "Sir, I am loner, as in too large of a crowd makes me irritated and 'cranky'. I highly doubt I will ever be in a pack, unless forced into one."
ooc: I know~. I noticed both ways that could be taken, but I made Helene think of the rape. XD Also, what Helene says is true! My female purebred Papillon was the DEVIL. -headdesk- I loved her anyways. :3 And I so just mocked my English Teacher in there. She says 'cranky' a lot, and it is her way of saying the oh-so-'nice' words for annoyed and in a horrible mood. -nods-

The Saluki seemed to be submitting to his actions, but there was no fear? Why was that? Wolf lifted his head a little more, listening to what she had to say. She defended herself well. This made Wolf drop his head to the ground. His shoulders shook slightly and he laughed, a little sadistically. "I suppose I had you all wrong then. Not cowardly. Just...easily angered. I like that." He took a deep breath and released it through his nose, irritated himself. "Well, if you didn't know...even loners are part of a pack. No offense, sweetheart, but," he laughed once more, "it's not the best time to be alone right now."
Wolf grinned, a cynical look in his eyes. "What do you say? I can use your hunting skills and even your 'anger'."
Wolf stood and looked around. "Think about it. I can see you don't need anybody to pity you either and you can get your own food, but who will watch over you as you sleep....protect you if you ever were surrounded? You don't think the wild animals have sensed that humans do not reside in the town anymore? Each day they get closer, expanding and claiming territory. Soon they'll have the town...and the pack you choose ought to be strong to fend them off. So...think about it."
With a wink, Wolf turned and stalked off, listening carefully for an ambush. He was always so paranoid. One day it will get the best of him, but for now, he'll keep it cool. Though he was already seen as a bit insane. If the female was smart, she would keep her mouth shut about their encounter. He needn't other pets talking about someone who came out unharmed from seeing and talking to Wolf. "I'll be around here," he called back without looking. "Can't hold the bladder back as long as I can hold back the hunger."
ooc: Lol. I was never into female dogs. Was she still like that after you fixed her? I wanted a Papillon...but I think I've decided I don't like small dogs. Lol

Was her hearing correct? Did the feared Wolf actually just offer her a spot his pack? Well, hunting was something she loved to do, and having the food she catches actually be eaten would be enough to satisfy her. Lately, most of what she caught was left for those pesky crows. Helene didn't reply as the German Shepherd started walking off. You could say she was a bit dazed for the time being.
However, her daze was shattered at what Wolf called back with a few moments later. She shook her head, sending her long ears flailing about, in order to clear her scrambled thoughts. She let out a light, airy laugh before she responded. "I really didn't need to know that, sir."

Wolf ate and was feeling very proud about his hunt. Not only had he caught a bird, but he'd got a new recruit. He would sleep well tonight.
The next day he slept in the same area by a creek. Even though it was cold, he jumped into the narrow flowing water and climbed up onto the bank, shaking it off. By the time he got to the cemetery he was very dry. He did his business near the graves of those humans who would have walked away had they been here in this time. He wished he could dig up all their graves and chew on their rotting bones.
He walked over and sat in the same spot he'd first encountered the shy dog. Now he wished he'd learned her name. Why hadn't he asked? Well, if she came around, he would make sure to ask. Besides, if she was smart she would join him. This made him smile.

She couldn't believe what she had seen! Her masters... They... They... The Saluki shook her head, shooing the thought away. No, she wasn't going to let this get to her. Light pawsteps barely made a single noise as the white dog sped through the forest connecting to the graveyard. Even while angered beyond belief, she still managed to keep quiet. Oh, how she did that she would never know. Why did she always take the forest route into the Old Oak Cemetery? Those thoughts would be kept for another time.
Helene slowed her pace, taking in deep breaths in order to calm herself. She shouldn't let her disbelief and feeling of betrayal get to her. You are better than that, Helene.
|
She nodded to herself, showing that she was going to take her own advise--whatever that was. The Saluki sighed, thinking through the past two days. Let's see... Now, what was I to do today? Ah, right! Chocolate eyes peered through the trees seperating her from the pet side of the cemetery. Will you look at that? He was there! It was now or never. The thin form of the Saluki slipped between the trees, quietly making her way over to where the black German Shepherd sat. So, he was expecting her to be back, huh? What, was he a psychic? The black dog turned toward the familiar voice and watched as she kept about the same distance as before. If Wolf wasn’t mistaken, there was something wrong with her. She was hiding it very well, but eyes were the hardest to keep emotionless. Mentally, this pleased him. He was almost certain that whatever did happen may have worked in his favor. ”It’s good to see you again,” he said politely. Wolf’s reputation was that he was a merciless and violent dog. However, when it came to getting what he wanted, he could be quite polite and persuasive before turning to extreme measures. If she refused, though? Well, he wasn’t sure what he might do.
”I take it you have an answer then? However, if I could learn your name first? It must have slipped my mind to ask you previously, and your nameless face is quite…unnerving,” he said as he lifted his foot to scratch behind his ear. Very subtle actions showed that Wolf’s mind was going more insane. This was a subconscious action, as if he could scratch away that unnerving feeling. Some might notice, others would see it as a normal itch all dogs got. He was with the others.
After scratching, Wolf stood and closed the distance in a light trot over to her. This time he did not circle her, but kept a couple of feet between them.
ooc: When she agrees to join, I'll go add her under the hunters. Don't need to fill out the form. =]

Helene. It was such a human-like name, but that didn’t matter. The dog before her just agreed to join the pack. ”You’ve made the right choice, Helene,” he said with a smirk. ”Since the pack is small, your kills and other food will be small portions, however I do think we should begin stocking up for the coming winter. It’s best that we don’t expose ourselves to too much cold. Sure we can endure it, but there’s no point in risking getting sick.”
Wolf frowned slightly toward the ground and returned his eyes up at her. ”I haven’t claimed any official pack territory as for a while I was the only one, but since the numbers have increased, I suppose it is time to claim a spot. You can stick around, as I think you should considering you’d want someone to watch your back as you sleep, but you’re also welcome to roam as you please. Just remember where your loyalties lie, hm?”
Lifting himself up, he stared around. ”I plan to have some sort of meet and greet with all the others soon, but for now we’ll keep things casual. One thing you should know: a wild animal has joined the pack. She looks almost like a cat. Just letting you know so you don’t kill her if she comes around you. She’s taken the liberty of keeping guard at night so that we may sleep. Do you have any questions or concerns?”
